International Conference Empowering Smallholders and Family Farms through the innovative practices for sustainable livestock production

International Conference, which took place on 30-31st of March, 2016 in Dnipropetrovsk, was organized by FAO and International Charitable Fund COMMUNITY WELLBEING. The event was supported by Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast State Administration, Cooperative Union “Hospodar”, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, Danone Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Agricultural Advisory Service. The goal was to:

• Discuss important issues of implementation of the best innovative practices in dairy cattle breeding using the example of transformation of small holders into family farms.
• Identify the conditions for effective running of farm business with consideration of socioeconomic factors, ensuring of produce quality and support of extension services.
• Provide informational and training support to small and middle-scale agricultural producers, and international experience sharing.

The Conference included field day, plenary session and work in thematic sections with the participation of international experts, representatives of Central and Eastern Europe, including donors, farmers and their unions, representatives of government, scientists and press for the exchange and dissemination of experience and development of recommendations to improve policies in these areas for both Ukraine and other countries concerned.
